About the experience
Join butterfly expert Matt Phelps on an exploration of the rare, special and common butterflies of the South Downs in Sussex. Depending on the time of year, the tour will take in between two and three sites, beginning at the first site at 10.30am and finishing by 4pm. This service can be adapted to meet your wishes and requirements, whether you're an absolute beginner with a growing curiosity for butterflies, or a seasoned lepidopterist keen to see particular species. What's included: • Private transport for the duration of the trip • The whole 'butterfly day' (late morning to mid-/late afternoon) with an expert guide at up to three sites • Detailed personal trip report with photographs as a memento • Any reserve entry fees Pricing: • 1-3 people: £220 • 4-7 people: £350 Note £10 discount available for weekday bookings and under-18s join free with accompanying adults (notify us via email or on the booking form). Here are some of the rare species which we hope to encounter at different times of year on this tour: May: Duke of Burgandy, Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Adonis Blue and Dark Green Fritillary June: Silver-studded Blue, Black Hairstreak, Adonis Blue and Dark Green Fritillary July: Purple Emperor, White Admiral and Silver-washed Fritillary. August: Silver-spotted Skipper, Purple Hairstreak, Brown Hairstreak and Chalkhill Blue. September: Long-tailed Blue, Adonis Blue and Silver-spotted Skipper.
