WildstartsSep 111 min readRye Harbour — windy and birdy!Yesterday we took James and five friends on a short tour of Rye Harbour. There was a fresh breeze from the west but we still managed to notch up a respectable 45 species on our three-hour route along the Flat Beach.The haunting calls of Eurasian Curlew echoed over the saltmarsh and we had close views of one of these spectacular waders.This Hobby ripped around the Flat Beach as it hunted small birds. Sand Martins, House Martins and Meadow Pipits were on the move... and the menu!The Ternery Pool offered close encounters with several Little Grebes.Two Wheatears, a species moving through on migration at the moment, gave us wonderful views as we headed towards the beach.Further waders included Turnstone (photo), as well as Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher and Dunlin.
