Mill ponds and open fields

A splendid afternoon guiding John, Suzanne and their dog Skylar on a Sussex Birding Mini-Tour produced over 60 species. We selected two nearby sites for a mix of gentle birding in varied habitats: Burton and Chingford Ponds, and The Burgh. Here are some photos of some memorable moments:

This Treecreeper was very showy at Burton Mill Pond
Buzzard over Burton Mill Pond
Great Crested Grebe at Chingford Pond — there were still a couple in juvenile plumage too
Little Grebe at Chingford Pond — the closest of about 10 here
One of about 10 Brown Hares at The Burgh — this one was surrounded by Red-legged Partridges a few seconds earlier!
A covey of Grey Partridges at The Burgh
As usual, Red Kites put on a spectacular show at The Burgh
The day was signed off by this fly-by Marsh Harrier at The Burgh

Other wildlife included Migrant Hawkers at the ponds and a Clouded Yellow fluttering past at The Burgh.

Thanks for your company, John, Suzanne and Skylar — we look forward to birding with you again.
